Lets face it, who doesn't like a secret door? Every home should have one.
Why choose between a bookcase or a door when you can have both? Classic secret agent stuff, incredible fun but also serving a purpose separating a joint home and holiday let. If the holiday let is occupied the door can be locked and the guests can enjoy the bookcase non the wiser. If the holiday let is vacant or friends and family are staying the door can be used to join the two properties.
To make the door work within the granite walls there was a bit of thinking to be done, a specific offset pivot point needed to be found. With that completed it was a case of constructing the mechanism. The door works via a regular latch system adapted with some 3d printed parts. This keeps the mechanism simple therefore easier to maintain in the future.
The classic book lever opens the door on one side, on the other side a subtle tweak to a picture frame releases the mechanism.
