Kitchen and bathroom pod

Tucked inside a traditional granite barn is this unique kitchen bathroom pod.

Whilst there might not be one specific answer to the timeless question.. How to best use the space you have? You could do a lot worse than this solution.

“An ingenious design by the owners to maximise space and maintain the number of bedrooms whilst also fitting a bathroom into the property. We really enjoyed working on this project.”

When we started work on this barn, a new roof had already been fitted but other than that everything was still to be done.

The pod itself is held (or hung) in place by steel ties concealed within its walls. This gives the illusion that its floating in space. We built the framework and fixed the cladding.

Downstairs we fitted the kitchen units, made up the cladded end panels, created the floating shelves carved the curve into the worktop.

Back in the workshop we made up the birch ply staircase that winds its way up and around the pod to give access to the hidden bathrooom above. What looks simple has to be very precise as any mistake or imperfection is immediately obvious.

Inside the pod a simple bathroom is tucked away. We made a bespoke pentagonal door to work with the available space.

We also made the bathroom cabinet and applied all of the interior cladding.

Other works inside this building included laying the Bordeaux pine floor and minimal skirting, creating a further 3 bespoke doors and making a birch bookcase/room divider.
